Sid At The French Cafe

An intimate fine-dining experience

“There’s a cool, urban sophisticated vibe, the attentive wait staff are on point and some truly exceptional wines match the equivalent in food. We could not ask for more – unless it was for a return ticket.” Cuisine Good Food Guide 23/24

We are proud to be one of only six restaurants in NZ to be awarded the prestigious 3 hats by Cuisine Good Food Guide.

The Legacy of The French Café (EST. 1981)

The French Cafe is an independently owned relaxed fine dining restaurant in Symonds Street, Auckland, with a rich history spanning four owners and four decades in business. Owned by Sid and Chand Sahrawat, the 35 seater restaurant serves contemporary New Zealand cuisine in an elegant yet relaxed fine dining setting, offering a 5 course tasting menu.

The open plan kitchen and dining area boasts glass doors overlooking a gorgeous courtyard reminiscent of an old French quarter, complete with a fireplace and herb garden.

Owner and executive chef Sid Sahrawat overseees the innovation in the kitchen alongside head chef Tommy Hope and they are supported by a talented team of hospitality professionals led by Alex Shchepetkin. Rob Chacon curates the bar menu and bespoke cocktail list.

The Gaggenau Tuesday Test Kitchen is a monthly Test kitchen series offering innovative off menu dishes designed and delivered by chef Sid Sahrawat and his team.
Our restaurant’s collaboration with the luxury German kitchen appliance brand Gaggenau continues.
